KEF SUMMER RESIDENTIAL CAMPS – 2 WEEKS OF CARE, JOY & RESPITE
KEF’s recent residential summer camps took place across two sites in England, providing 86 children and young adults with a wide range of physical and/or learning disabilities as well as complex medical conditions with an extremely positive summer camp experience. From the moment the children arrived in camp, the campers across all specialist divisions enjoyed a packed programme of activities and outings that were carefully designed to be appropriate for the various abilities of participants.
Both camps were a tremendous success and were supported by over 200 committed and trained volunteers generously dedicating their hearts and their summer holiday to the children and young adults of KEF. We are extremely grateful to each of our volunteers, the camp management, cooks, doctors, nurses and host families.
The magic of KEF can be felt by all in camp with far reaching impacts too. A member of the public saw one of our divisions in Drayton Manor theme park and emailing us after saying ‘I just wanted to send a message because it was so heartwarming to see the dignity, fun and love that was between the young people and their carers…seeing the joy on everyone’s faces and the care that was given made me look at your website to see the work you do.’
Families of participants were able to benefit from two weeks of respite and spend quality time with other family members, confident in the care that their children were receiving from KEF. One mother shared after camp ‘as I am unpacking, I can clearly see how much love, care and thought she put into caring for her and I’m so touched’, another mother commented ‘our hearts are full of love and gratitude, we cannot begin to describe how the respite transforms us.’
We are indebted to our volunteers, BIKE4KEF riders, supporters, and the entire community for your continued commitment and generosity, both via BIKE4KEF and throughout the year, which enables us to provide this essential service.
