KEF’S OUTSTANDING SUMMER CAMPS – CELEBRATING MILESTONES & MAKING MEMORIES

KEF’s recent residential summer camps took place across two sites in England, providing 89 children and young adults with a wide range of physical and/or learning disabilities, as well as complex medical conditions, with a memorable summer camp experience. From the moment the children arrived, campers across all specialist divisions enjoyed a packed programme of activities and outings, carefully designed to be appropriate for the various abilities of participants.

This summer was marked by two very special Bar Mitzvah celebrations – one at each programme. Surrounded by their peers, volunteers, and the wider KEF family, the boys’ simchas were celebrated with joy, music, and dancing. These unforgettable milestones were a powerful reminder of KEF’s commitment to ensuring that every child and young adult can experience their special moments in a way that is meaningful and inclusive. They truly encapsulated the essence of KEF: happiness, acceptance and togetherness.

Adding to the celebrations, KEF is proud to share that Ofsted once again rated KEF “Outstanding” in all areas. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of KEF’s volunteers and professional team, and a reassurance to families that their children are receiving the very highest standards of care.

Both camps were a tremendous success, supported by over 200 committed and trained volunteers who generously dedicated their hearts and their summer holiday to the children and young adults of KEF. We are extremely grateful to each of our volunteers, the camp management, cooks, doctors, nurses, and host families.

The impact of KEF is best expressed through the words of families themselves. One mother, whose child attended KEF for the very first time, shared: “We don’t think we could ever have dreamed what an incredible experience it would be for him, or thought it ever possible. Everyone has been saying – and we can see as well – how much more alert he is, it was so amazing for him developmentally. We really feel it’s made an impact on him. Literally no words to express how grateful we are.”

Families of participants also benefitted from two weeks of respite and quality time with other family members, confident in the care their children were receiving. Another mother reflected: “Our hearts are full of love and gratitude. We cannot begin to describe how the respite transforms us.”

In addition to the summer camps, KEF was delighted to host a young adults’ retreat in Brighton, which proved to be a massive success. Packed with exciting activities, meaningful connections and seaside fun, the retreat provided the group with a unique opportunity to relax, bond and create lasting memories. One participant summed it up beautifully: “Thank you everyone for such an amazing holiday break in Brighton… the fun times that we had are now memories - memories and jokes that will last a long time.”

We are indebted to our volunteers, BIKE4KEF riders, supporters, and the entire community for your continued commitment and generosity, both via BIKE4KEF and throughout the year, which enables us to provide this essential service. Together, we are making milestones possible and memories that last a lifetime.
